A first immigration consultation is most useful when the attorney can see the full picture quickly. Before the meeting, gather the documents that show where your case stands today.
Bring any notices from USCIS, immigration court, ICE, or the Department of State. If you have prior applications, decisions, receipts, court hearing notices, or appointment letters, include those too.
It also helps to write a short timeline: when you entered the United States, what applications were filed, what decisions were received, and what deadlines are coming up.
If the case involves family members, include their names, dates of birth, immigration status, and any documents connected to their case.
You do not need to know the legal answer before the consultation. The goal is simply to bring enough information so the attorney can understand the situation and explain possible next steps.
